WHY did Dr. Brad become a Chiropractor?
Recently, a patient asked me why I am so passionate about Chiropractic. I thought about my response and decided to share it with all of you. Being the son of a chiropractor, I sort of took good health for granted. I was rarely sick, and (unfortunately) never missed school. I played a lot of sports, but football was my favorite. I never went more than a couple of weeks without getting adjusted and that schedule increased to weekly or more, during football season. I never suffered an injury through youth, middle school or high school football and I attributed a lot of that to my regular chiropractic care. All of that changed one awful fall afternoon. I played football at Western Kentucky University and my sophomore year, in a stadium in the middle of Tennessee, my life changed in an instant.
I was seriously injured in the game. The pain was so intense that I couldn’t turn my head; my arm and hand were as numb as a stone. Soon, that arm got so weak that I could barely lift it to get dressed. This pain went on for weeks and I began to worry that I would never get any better. We had an excellent training staff but I did not get any relief from their efforts and after a few weeks our team doctor told me “there’s not much more we can do except give you pain pills and hope it gets better”. NOT the diagnosis a twenty year old wants to hear!
Thankfully my dad is a chiropractor. I had started seeing a chiropractor at school before football started, so I went back to him. He examined me again and took x-rays and found that I had severe misalignments (subluxations) in my neck.
I went through intensive care and the restorative care for the remainder of my time at WKU. I transferred to UGA and continued to see a chiropractor regularly (weekly).
I was looking at a life of chronic pain, with a disability rating somewhere between 12-15%. Again, at 20 years old, not the life you envisioned. As you know, today I live a very active lifestyle and have for the past 30 years without pain or any impairment from my injury. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without Chiropractic.
So, when you ask me why I am passionate about telling others... this is why. I would never want someone to suffer needlessly, when there is such an easy solution. I want to tell others that God has given them this ONE amazing body and it perfect by design, but we must do our part to take care of it. Chiropractic allows us to do this, and to function at 100% of our body's potential. By removing the interference and helping the body function better you not only feel better but you heal better. If you have someone in your life that you feel could benefit from Chiropractic Care, please feel free to share my story... it just might change their life.
